The film 'Stadtplanung geht alle an' advocates the planning of a modern, traffic-compatible city. Wide access roads guarantee the accessibility of the pedestrian zones and shopping centres downtown; the varied design of the city is propagated by mingling blocks of rented flats with owner-occupied homes. Green spaces, sports fields and playgrounds are planned, "because we don't build cities only for cars but also for people". While urban development is conceived as a communal task requiring the necessary political will, the end of the film celebrates the urban planner himself as an artist, scientist, physician and philosopher. |
